Tasked by Arizona’s Mayo Clinic to develop possible solutions for sedentary lifestyles, particularly at work and school. With an increasing demand for sedentary jobs and school settings, less time and opportunity for activity outside of these institution, and associated heath risks discovering solutions to increase activity are paramount.

RESEARCH
Group Brainstorm
Initial research was done as a group (2015 MID students) to gain an in-depth understanding of aspects related to working and school atmospheres in the society, health concerns and benefits resulting from sedentary and active lifestyles, the history and a competitive analysis of current solutions with regard to work and school environments. As well as cultural research around the society and environment that facilitates a sedentary lifestyle, both locally and internationally.
Daily Routine
Research into the typical daily activities was done for adults that work in typical offices. Missed opportunities for standing were found with a high percentage of sitting as a result.
Job Activity Over Time
From the 1960 until today moderately active job functions has been declining while sedentary and light activity has been increasing.
Mortality Rate
Multiple health risks from excessive sitting and a lack of activity were found through the research. These risks can be reduced through a more active work experience.

Design Inspirations
Inspiration for the design was found through a variety of sources, from environments to users, from art to technology. These inspirations help to form the direction for the objects personality, form, details, colors, martial, and culminating in an overall design language that can be applied to all aspects surrounding the product, from marketing and packaging, to presentations and future products.
